Just saying...

Has anyone else noted that in the last few years, newly purchased items are extremely difficult to remove from the almost indestructible plastic coverings. I find that I need either a scissors or a sharp knife to open these packages, and in doing so I almost lose some fingers or otherwise mutilate my hands. Remember the days when you could easily rip open any package, such as a computer-related  or electronic item, with your hands. And then slowly things changed. The plastic wrap became more and more tough and had to be physically cut with a knife to be opened. Today was  the absolute winner. I purchased a 14 ft pole with an attached saw blade from a general supply store to cut tree  branches . It was completely covered with a hard incredibly hard plastic. I finally used a sharp knife to make an opening and then a scissors to slowly cut the plastic covering the device, trying to avoid the sharp edges of the plastic pieces.

What is going on? Is this a plot by the underpaid factory workers in China, Mexico, VietNam, etc. to finally get back at rich Americans? Or is it paranoid stupidity by the owners of the American retail chains to make their products impenetrable to avoid theft. I often wondered what someone abandoned on a South Pacific island would do when faced with trying to get these items from the plastic wrappings- hit them with a coconut? Do they really believe that someone could possibly open packages in the store and walk out with the items. There should be a consumer revolt to stop buying these things if they are packaged to survive on Mars. Enough is enough!
